About Westgate
Who We Are
Westgate is a residential neighbourhood in the south-west quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. The area was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1956, and Westgate was established in 1957. We are represented at Calgary City Council by the Ward 6 Councillor.
Our neighbourhood is bounded by Bow Trail to the north, 45 Street to the east, 17 Avenue to the south, and Sarcee Trail to the west. Edworthy Park is located north of the community. Downtown Calgary is easily accessible from Westgate by car or the C-Train Blue Line 45th Street Station.
We are fortunate to have three schools in the area: École Westgate (a French Immersion Elementary School, Grades K-6), Vincent Massey Jr High (Grades 7-9), and St Michael School (Grades K-9).
The majority of homes in Westgate are single family homes, with a few multifamily dwellings. As an established inner city community many residences have mature trees, adding to our urban tree canopy.
The Westgate Community Association (WCA) was formed to provide social and recreational activities for residents, encourage community pride and to act as an unbiased advocate for the residents of Westgate. We’re governed by our Board of Directors, elected annually at our AGM in May.
In fulfilment of our vision and mission, we offer multiple programs and events throughout the year such as Winterfest, Outdoor Movie Nights, Pickleball, Coffee Socials and Seniors Fitness.
Becoming a member of the Westgate Community Association is an excellent way to stay connected and support our community. Funds collected from membership purchases go directly back in to supporting our community programming and events.
